Week 3 (17.10.11)

This week I have continued working on Wishee Washee. There were some problems with the cuffs of the tunic and pants because of the belled shape. The shape of the cuff meant that at the seams the curve was dipping down which then sat uneven once attached to the pants. After trying several trials, I finally found a way to even out the curve so it would stick straight. This had to be done by measureing the centre of the cuff and then making the curved edge the same measurment, which evetually worked. So now I know this for future reference. The rest of the week was just getting my costume to a fitting stage by Friday. I managed to achieve this, which I was happy about. I also helped Ching with dying the fabric this week, which was interesting as I had never done it before. On Friday I researched how to make shoe covors, after finding out a few methods I then tried them for myself. It was not as easy as the methods made it out.

Week 2 (10.10.11)

This week I started doing stuff for Panto. One of my projects is making the scruff outfit for Wishee Washee. When I first looked at the design I thought it was going to be alot simpiler that I has so far turned out to be. While making my tunic pattern, I felt that it went quite well and I was confident with it. Moving onto the pants pattern was where I started to go down hill. I copied a pattern from pajama bottems which worked out fine but adding on the little details proved to be a hassel. The cuffs of the bottoms are bell flared with rigilene through the bottom to allow them to sit out. After making a few toiles I had to make them more flared therefore repeating the process many times!! At the end of the week I have managed to finish the bottoms and will have them fitted on Wednesday.

Week 1 (3.10.11)

The first week back into Costume we started a blocking class for the week. The class was taught by Gill and it was the first year that it had taken place. As it was part of Gills teaching we were to give her feedback on how we thought it went. I thought the classes were very useful and gave us all a bit more confidence going straight into panto next week. Throughout the week we did a shirt block, a skirt block and did a collaborative project of making a jacket. There was 4 of us doing the jacket which I felt maybe didn't work out to plan because there was times when we werent doing anything because we had to wait for the other team to finish doing something else. Although I have done blocking before I felt this was a great recap and has already made panto work easier with creating patterns.
